Urology

Overview

Though basic Urology has been a part of TMH services for a long time, the department of Urology is a fairly new addition. It is the only centre in Jharkhand that offers comprehensive treatment in Urology including the diagnosis and treatment of kidney stone disease, urological cancers, incontinence of urine, urethral stricture disease, prostatic disease, and other urinary difficulties.

Future plans include incorporating senior residency and then DNB in Urology in the department. TMH also has plans to upgrade its treatment facilities to offer renal transplant surgeries in its Department of Urology.

Tata Main Hospital has 100 Watt Holmium Laser Machine, the most preferred Laser world-wide- A unique first for the state of Jharkhand, an infrastructural boost to the existing set-up. This new facility shall also be beneficial to the Heart patients and patients suffering from Stroke (CVA). Further patients, on whom blood thinner medicines cannot be stopped for the surgery, can now easily undergo surgery without stopping the medicines.

Management of urinary stone disease

Stone disease is a very common problem all over the India. For renal stone depending upon the size, location and stone burden different modalities of treatment are being offered.

Percutaneous nephro lithotripsy (PCNL)

In this procedure, a hole about 1 cm is made in the kidney, to remove stones after breaking them into smaller fragments. It causes minimal pain, discomfort, and blood loss, and the patient can go home in 48 hours. Stones of any size, type, location, whether complex or staghorn can be removed by minimal morbidity and maximum clearance. Some complex stones may require multi-perc, or combination of PCNL+ RIRS
