Orthopaedics

Overview

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery was set up in TMH in 1979 as a single unit department, headed by Dr D Mishra. At present, it is one of the major departments in the hospital, consisting of 3 independent units. The department is ably supported by a spirited and committed team of specialists. Most of them are well trained in various sub-specialities of Orthopaedic Surgery.

The Department provides state of art treatment in nearly all fields of Orthopaedic Surgery including Trauma & Accident Surgery, Joint Replacements, Sports Medicine & Arthroscopy, Spine Surgery and Deformity Correction.
The facilities provided in the department have risen steadily over the years and currently the department caters to nearly 84,000 out patients, over 4,000 in-patient admissions and nearly 2,500 surgeries per annum.

The Department has been recognised for the Post Graduate training in the field of Orthopaedic Surgery by the National Board of Examinations since 2000. It is gradually becoming a centre of choice among top ranking DNB candidates. We have a very impressive pass rate over the last 5 years. Many candidates clear their theory and practical exams in their maiden attempt.

We take infection prevention and control seriously. We provide operating rooms with filtration systems designed to eliminate bacteria from the air, infection-reducing surgical practices, and enhanced sterilization methods. We strictly adhere to departmental antibiotic guideline. Our Surgical Site Infection rate is quite low.

In order to constantly add value to its services and enhance learning, the Orthopaedic Department at TMH organises state level conferences, workshops and lectures regularly and invites faculty of national & international repute to share their experience and expertise.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is supported by a well-equipped Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Unit. It is located in the OPD complex. The Unit functions from 9.00am to 6.00pm, Monday to Saturday.
