Day care surgery has started recently at the Tata Main Hospital. This facility enables patients to receive surgical treatment without being admitted into the hospital. The patient has to come directly to the operation theatre in fasting state at 8 am in the morning. The operation is then carried out and the patient is kept in the ward for observation for a few hours. The patient is discharged in the evening at around 6 pm after ensuring that he has recovered satisfactorily and received adequate treatment. Post-operational medication and clear instructions are given when the patient is discharged.
OPD OT is situated in the OPD complex and most of the daycare procedures under local anaesthesia are done here. The Endoscopy Clinic also operates from the OPD OT where on an average 12-15 upper and lower GI endoscopies are done per day, and they include diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Special dressings and small surgeries from General Surgery, Dental, ENT and Skin Departments are carried out here. Urological services like flexible cystoscopy and uroflowmetry are also available.
