College of Nursing

The nursing training programme in Tata Main Hospital started in 1939 in the School of Nursing and used to deliver General Nursing & Midwifery course. Alumni of the institute are literally present all over the world and doing extremely well wherever they are placed. From the academic session 2015-2016 onwards, School of Nursing is upgraded to College imparting four years Basic B.Sc. Nursing degree.

College of Nursing, Tata Main Hospital is approved by Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi and recognized by Jharkhand Nurses’ Registration Council, Ranchi and affiliated to Kolhan University, Chaibasa. Training covers everything from best practices in routine care to intensive care to patient safety and patient care in various specialities. Our dream is to train nurses who will play a significant role in these cost-effective, higher technology, prevent and manage models.

Eligibility Criteria for Basic B.Sc. (N) Programme

  • Female and unmarried
  • The minimum age for admission shall be 17 years on 31st December of the year in which admission is sought.
  • The maximum age of admission shall be 25 years as on 31st December of the year in which admission is sought.
  • Minimum education:
  • 10+2 class passed with Science Physics Chemistry Biology& English Core/English Elective with aggregate of 45% marks from recognized board under AISSCE/CBSE/ICSE/SSCE/HSCE or other equivalent Board.
  • Students passed in 10+2 examination in Science conducted by National Institute of Open School with 45% marks.

Selection procedure

  • All eligible candidates will be called for a written test, date of which will be notified by post.
  • Based on the performance in the written test candidates will be short listed and interviewed for final selection.
  • The selected candidates will be offered to join the programme subject to their being found medically fit from TMH.
  • Candidates called for written test /interview will not be paid any fare.
  • Course fee should be submitted once selection is made.

Facilities Provided by the College

The College is well equipped with the following laboratories

  5. Audio visual aids room
  6. Computer lab
  7. Library
  8. Playground
  9. Four classrooms - can accommodate 40 students each
  10. Multi-Purpose Hall - can accommodate 150 examinees at a time
  11. Recreational Facilities - music system, TV, DVD, indoor games, allowed use of sports facilities in JRD Tata Sports Complex from time to time
  • All items present in the aforementioned laboratories are as per Indian Nursing Council norms. Further, the College of Nursing has access to a 40 seater bus from time to time as per requirement.
  • Training in computers is imparted by the faculty of Sevak Nanavati Technical Institute (SNTI), Tata Steel.
  • Spoken and written English class is taken by an English teacher on honorarium basis.
  • Classes on various medical subjects are taken by the senior doctors of Tata Main Hospital.
  • Training on CPR is being provided as part of the syllabus through a simulator. Fire safety training is given time to time by trained personnel.
  • Exposure for the students on Community Health Nursing is provided at the Community Health Centre in Jugsalai and urban health centre in Laxminagar.

Hostel Facilities

The College of Nursing hostel - situated within the TMH campus and housed along with the College building - can accommodate nearly 250 students. Accommodation is provided on the basis of twin sharing or on dormitory basis. The hostel has 24 hours supply of electricity and safe drinking water as well as a kitchen and a mess outsourced to an external vendor. All residents of the College are mandatorily required to avail mess facilities.

The course is fully residential and all students are mandatorily required to reside in the hostel during the course. The hostel is presided over by two full-time wardens and is provided with 24 hours security from the agency utilized by TMH. There are full-time house-keeping staff for upkeep of the hostel.

An anti-ragging squad which includes wardens, resident teachers and student representatives from every year remains alert throughout the day especially during first three months of any academic year. They are guided and governed by Anti-ragging committee formed by representatives as directed by the UGC.
